Nokia unveils 41 megapixel phone

Nokia has unveiled a 41 megapixel camera-phone – designed so phone users can ‘zoom in’ without a bulky lens.

The 41-megapixel sensor is around three times more powerful than the ones in any existing handsets.

A Nokia executive says, ‘It shows what we can do.’

The phone will be launched in May and cost 480 Euros.

Nokia says the technology is designed so users can zoom in quickly and easily without losing picture quality.

Most smartphones use digital zoom functions where the picture quality drops when users ‘zoom in’ – in practice, the zoom functions are rarely used.

PureView’s huge 41-megapixel sensor lets users zoom in up to six times simply by ‘selecting’ an area – and because of the super-high resolution of the PureView, images still come out at five megapixels, the same as many normal smartphone cameras.

With video, users can zoom in up to four times and still shoot in 1080p Full HD.

‘When you zoom with the Nokia 808 PureView, in effect you are just selecting the relevant area of the sensor,’ says the Finnish company. ‘With no zoom, you simply use the full area of the sensor.’

The phone is bulkier than normal camera phones, according to reports from Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress, where it was unveiled, but even on full resolution, it shoots instantly.

 

The phone has been in development for years, Nokia said, and produces pictures that can be blown up to ‘poster size’.

Tech site Pocket-Lint said, ‘What it shows us though is that Nokia can create amazing technology in a device that is small and compact – relatively speaking.

‘We’re also told it will come to other handsets in the future. The reason you don’t want it is that, beside the amazing camera tech, it runs the company’s Symbian operating system, which is basically winding down.’

“Microsoft Account” In Windows 8

The long-running “Live” name Microsoft has placed on its many connected services (Mail, messenger, photos, etc) is coming to an end in Windows 8, as part of their ongoing, major brand rehaul. Zune, of course, has been on its way out for some time, but will receive the coup de grace in Windows 8.

Their main services are being rolled into bundled applications with a native Metro look and simpler names — Mail instead of Windows Live Mail, Photos instead of Windows Live Photo Gallery, and so on. The new apps will be tightly integrated, as we’ve seen in demos, and will retain much of the Live cross-service functionality. They’ll be unified by a single “Microsoft Account.”

But Live isn’t going away entirely: the name is too strong to take away from Xbox Live and its subsidiary components, and in fact Xbox Live may be coming to Windows as the main entertainment brand — for music, games, and video content. This will replace Zune, which Microsoft has been gradually sweeping under the rug over the past two years. Zune fans mustn’t despair, though: Zune pass functionality will remain intact, and chances are the old desktop player and Zune hardware will continue to be supported in some way. And the fact is that Zune has left an indelible mark on Microsoft’s operations, pioneering the look and feel found in Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8.

Smaller services, like Writer and Games for Windows Live, will likely be rolled into existing products. It’s in major brand shakedowns like this that one starts to realize just how many platforms and pieces of software Microsoft actually has and supports. This coalescence of services is probably coming as a huge relief to the company, though the labor involved in repurposing them is, naturally, Herculean.

Conspicuously absent from the lineup mentioned is Messenger, which may be seeing some integration with Skype. A multi-service messenger/video-chat app with Skype built in seems likely, though Skype would definitely have to have a discrete presence as well for power users.

No doubt they’ll leave behind many irate users who want things to remain the same — and indeed how Microsoft intends to accommodate these legacy users isn’t clear. Their new clean-break approach maroons many people on the old Windows XP/7 mainland, where they’ll likely remain until the launch quakes of Windows 8 clear away and the new land is safe for colonization.

msnNOW New Social News Aggregator by Microsoft

Microsoft  has launched a new online service called msnNOW, which is a social media powered trends and news aggregator. It analyzes data from Twitter, Facebook, Bing and some other services to identify, curate and display the latest news stories and trends. It is like a mash-up of Google News and Google Trends, but instead of search, it is powered by social data .

Cores of Processor & Misconception about i3, i5, i7

The term core memory is a leftover from an early form of random access memory (RAM). Magnetic core memory  was first patented in 1947 and was used in early computers through the 50s and 60s. According to Wikipedia’s article, magnetic core memory was replaced by integrated silicon RAM chips in the 1970’s. Unlike modern silicon RAM, core memory was non-volatile — it retained its contents indefinitely without power.

multi-core processor is a single computing component with two or more independent actual processors (called “cores”), which are the units that read and execute program instructions.

Intel introduced a new naming scheme for its new Core processors. There are three variants, Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7, but the names no longer correspond to specific technical features like the number of cores. Instead, the brand is now divided from low-level (i3), through mid-range (i5) to high-end performance (i7), which correspond to three to five stars in Intel’s Intel Processor Rating as opposed to the entry-level Celeron (one star) and Pentium (two stars) processors.

For my curious friends !

  • Core i3 has 2 cores !
  • Core i5 has 2 or 4 cores !
  • Core i7 has 2,4 or 6 cores !

Now the question is how i3 is efficient then core 2 duo ?

Technically there are many differences but shortly what makes the big difference is the cache .

  • core i3 max cache = 4mb L3
  • core i5 max cache= 8mb L3
  • core i7 max cache =12mb L3

Processor earlier then i3 used L2 type cache .
